Count Down to Start Up (1970) follows the start-up process of ARMCO’s first fully automatic cold strip steel mill in Middletown. Their vision was to restore the building back to a beautiful and thriving theatre; filling the grand ballroom with patrons, entertainers, educators, and employees. She spoke last week to the Rotary Club and the members were surprised when she told them the opera house has no employees. Each tour will include a discussion of the history of the theater, with looks at the exterior features, lobby, theater, balconies, projection booth, backstage and downstairs dressing area. The tour lasts about an hour and a half, and will be led by a SORG volunteer.
Griffith said the Sorg is important to the community because it provides local theater enthusiasts an opportunity to see local productions and it’s an economic driver for downtown businesses. There are 17 musical shows scheduled for the rest of the year and seven so far in 2022. The movie critic of the Cleveland Plain Dealer praised the film on its release, “…for perfection in all departments (camera work, editing, narration, etc.).” The print being shown is a recently restored version made possible with a grant from the National Film and Preservation Foundation. The Sorg Opera House, for over a century, attracted some of the country's finest dramatic and musical acts. Once again the theater’s goal is to entertain, enrich, and inspire our community.
